Ah good one!!!
Some of the things that we do to help out are:
Recycle instead of thowing out to the landfill, whatever we can...we do this at home, and I do this at work as well.
Buying products that are biodegradable where we can, also buying paper products etc that use recycled materials...you'd be surprised at how many household items you can get that are made from partially or fully recycled materials.
Changing to lower wattage light bulbs, and or putting dimmers on the lights, still need to get a couple of dimmers for the kitchen...

.
Using ceiling fans instead of the air conditioning in the house whenever posible....we have not gotten into summer yet, but have had a few toasty days, we are attempting to conserve energy in this way as it take a large amount of power to run the system otherwise.
Being in lighting I deal everyday with the energy crisis, and the new laws that are in place and going to be in effect around in this area.
One of the most cost effective and easiest ways to save energy is to replace your standard on off switch's to good quality dimmers (ie Lutron), then dim your lights about 20% for everyday use, and bring them back up to full brightness when needed for tasking etc...this will save a lot.

PS..many cities, and government agencies are giving rebates or discount coupons for converting to green products.
